we have 2 hosts with 10 gig iSCSI links to SAN . (2 per host , jumbo frames enables , no teaming, isolated vlan)
We are receiving reports of slow read speeds (at the VM level) after upgrade.
What is the best / most accurate way that i can measure the throughput of the VM to the SAN?

I've had a long term problem part time problem with vSphere 5.X whereas the occasional vm will lose network connectivity during a vMotion. It's a very intermittent problem, and there is no easy way to differentiate because vm's can have the same os and network adapter on the same host, but one will migrate fine and the other will lose network connectivity. I've become so hyper aware of the issue that I start pinging production vm's before I vmotion so I'm aware the second they go offline. A simple network adapter toggle (off, then back on) will usually kick the adapter back on.
I'm running vCSA 6 and I'm in the process of upgrading my ESXi 5.1 hosts, so I have a mixed 5.1/6.0 environment. I have had this problem ever since I created this environment at version 5.0. The one thing I have not yet seen is losing network connectivity when migrating to an ESXi 6 host. I don't know if that means anything, or if it's just because I still have a majority of 5.1 hosts and just haven't seen it yet, but I still wanted to mention it. I also run standard switches and have ample ports on each.
Anyone else experience this and know what might be the cause? I may open a ticket with VMware for the heck of it, but though I'd see what the community thought first.

Yesterday, I merged my second 4TB HDD to the first 4TB HDD, to get more space, and still wanted it to act like one.
But now I can´t run 2 VM at one time, so I want to undo this.
Can I do this, without loosing the data on my first HDD?
I have not used it, after the merge, so it is not with data.
I´m using ESXI 5.5.
I have searched the internet, but I did not find a solution

We have a VM which seems to be missed from vCenter or it might never been in vCenter, which I want to trace it out.
At present the VM is not showing in the vCenter hierarchy, but it is still online and accessible.
we have only one vCenter with lot of VMs.
Now I would like to get the host name from inside OS, can anyone please suggest me in this regards.

trying to re-install 5.1U3 and the install is failing with "either bootbank or locker aren't set error during install"
esxi was installed on sd card and the local raid1 drive was used for scratch etc.
it did not provide an option to upgrade so after the failed install it now says no hypervisor found and I don't have a way to change old config re scratch etc.
why are we getting "either bootbank or locker aren't set error during install"? I raised a case with VMware, but unfortunately its been 24h and they've not done anything to help me yet so I am not holding my breath...
What is the right and most optimal way to add this host back to vCenter?
HP replaced both motherboard and SD-card and it was on the SD-card that ESXi was installed so all corrupted and lost. It would appear there are no backups of configuration either. Also in vCenter the entry for this host shows as disconnected (since it failed last week) and there are no local switches - distributed instead.
What I would probably do is:
there appear to be no host profiles either, but host is stand-alone and used by CommVault for backups.
It was suggested that to me that I should just right-click the disconnected entry and connect the freshly installed ESXi even though it has no configuration, but it doesn't seem right.
Any views much appreciated.

I've got the perl CLI tools installed on a CentOS 5 x64 system and everything has been working fine. We have a custom script that lets us reboot vm's from the command line. It's primarily dependent on:
/usr/local/lib/vmware-vcli/apps/vm/vminfo.pl
to get the list of machines. Starting a few days ago, that has begun returning:
Can't load class 'VirtualAHCIController' at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/VMware/VIMRuntime.pm line 52.
I've found reference to that class in /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/VMware/VIM25Stub.pm and I see no reason why it wouldn't be loaded, but am not positive what triggers its loading. Anyone have ideas on what I should look at?
When reinstalling ESXI 5.5 on local DUAL SDs and remote data stores are present...will the remote data stores be preserved?

i already applied the kb relative to the 5.x version with no success .

I have an esxi 5.5 server that was recently installed. I've noticed that after the installation of esxi 5.5. The microsoft pptp vpn servers no longer work. . They hang at 'verifying username and password'. Usually this is due to firewalls blocking the gre protocol. But in this case, It has been verified that this is not the case from a combination of packet sniffing and elimination(other MS pptp vpn servers, running older esxi, behind the same firewall, with same rules, are working fine)and local server firewall is off as well. I then had a fresh new windows server 2008 vm installed(on same esxi 5.5 server) and configured rras on it with same results. This is trying from multiple client workstations some running win7 and another xp with their firewalls off as well. Also(maybe the smoking gun)is that this all started last wednesday night - when esxi 5.5 was installed. Earlier that day(when it was still on 5.0),i was using that pptp vpn fine. So, was wondering what in esxi 5.5 could be conflicting with or causing this. Or if anyone as seen something similar(i've heard that 5.5 offers more features with respect to network filtering and the like).

I am a network engineer, so i know my way around a router and switch but not on ESXi.
I have a network management VM on my ESXi host and I would like my VM to reach different networks/VLANs, so i'll connect a router to my ESXi host and have a switch behind that router, the switch will have a link to different VLANs and between the router and the switch will be a trunk, so I can basically extend reachability to those VLANs.
How do i setup my ESXi host, to have one physical interface, divided using 802.1Q sub interfaces, each one with a different VLAN tag ? That's usually referred to as router-on-a-stick model.

after I reinstalled ESXi 5.5 I am unable to install guest OS in esxi datastore sometimes I could but most of the time windows OS installation get stops middle of the installation. and I am able install guest os in NFS datastore using ISO file.

So we have an older vCenter that has hosts running on fumes, and I'm moving a VM from one vCenter to another. I'm trying to add a server to the inventory in the newer vCenter, but I'm having issues. 3 of the 8 servers in my cluster are 5.1, and the others are 4.0 (terrible setup, I know, but there's not much I can do about it because we don't really have the space to clear and upgrade them all). When adding to inventory it keeps adding it to the 4.0 hosts, but the VM is a VM Version 9, so it shows up as invalid, and I'm not able to vMotion it to one of the correct hosts at that point. Is there any way to force the inventory add to a specific host in the cluser?
I have a mainboard S3000ah, and a Seagate HDD. I install ESXi 5.0 U1 years ago. Today, I boot from a ESXi 5.5 U3b CD and try to install it and keep all VMs.
But ESXi 5.5 cannot detect my HDD. ESXi 6.5 can detect my HDD but my CPU (X3230) is not supported by it.
How to make ESXi 5.5 regconise my HDD?

One of our ESXi 5.5 U3 hosts being managed by vCenter 5 running on Windows 2012 R2 has just disconnected from the vCenter server. Error I get is SSL thumbprint cannot be verified. I checked via SSH and the hosts SSL thumbprint matches the one registered in vSphere. I cannot reconnect the host to vCenter because of this error and I cannot tell vCenter that the SSL thumbprint is correct in the Web Client under VC->Manage->settings->edit->SSL because it cannot talk to the disconnected host. Stuck between a rock and a hard place here. I will try restarting the management agents later but don't want to try this during the day as there 20 production VM's running on this host.
Anyone else came across this before? I know there was a bug in 5.0 which was addressed in update 1.

we have IBM x3650 M5 machine in which the ESXi5.5 has been installed, there is also an Q logic HBA installed on the host. The host is connected with brocade B300 Fc switch, there is also a IBM storwize 3700 SAN storage connected to the same switch. we have configure lun1 and lun2 on the SAN and map this lun to the host. I want to ask some question.
1) when we transfer file between two vm i am getting the transfer rate approx 60Mb/s.
2)when we transfer vm from one lun to other it will take around 30 minutes to transfer. why it will take too much time.
why we get 60mb/s transfer rate, the host has 8GB/s HBA card, and the switch and SAN also have 8GB/s fc card. why we are not getting the transfer rate approx 400Mb/s .
The switch is working on default setting means the host and SAN is connected to the switch with the speed of 8GB/s.
