I am getting relocating modules and starting up the kernel log while installing ESXI on my oracle box vm.
For the VM i have assigned below resources.
RAM - 4GB
Harddisk - 10GB
can anyone suggest how to resolve this to complete the installation.

I see a strange behavior of ESXi host in the VCenter (Essential Kit for 3 servers).
I disconnected several local HDDs in the raid5 volume.
Local disk is changed its status to failed at the health tab.
Alarm raised.
All virtual machines are still 'Powered on' and pinging (!!!).
After 30 minutes this datastore was removed from ESXi host.
Alarm was cleared (!!!).
All virtual machines are still 'Powered on' and pinging (!!!).
There were several virtual machines: Windows 7, CUCM11.5.
Can anyone explain, is it correct behavior of the ESXi ???!!!

I have a large vCenter Farm and what we are looking to do is Export a list of the Physical hardware that the ESX software is installed on. When I look at each server I can see the information so I know vCenter has it, and when I try to export each machine it sends it to a txt file. I am looking to get a CSV file with every host in the environment. Is there a way I can do this?

and sometimes my vm can't reach the device from :
mt -f /dev/nst0 status
/dev/nst0: No such file or directory
what I used to do is to detach and attach the device to the vm from ui.
my question is if i could do it with power cli ?

Hello there, I have installed the ESXI 5.5 on the DELL OPTIPLEX 780, and successfully passthrough the HD6450 into win7,but when I wanted to shutdown/restart the win7, the process seemed to be fine, but the state on the vCenter was always on, althrough I shutdown the VM's power, and then I had to restart again the ESXI to start the win7. So, did anyone meet this problem? Please help me.

I have scheduled host profile scan every week, I get most the host profile as non-compliant when I check the profile and the host It shows error " Unable to check compliance since host does not have vSphere host profile license".
I have Enterprise Plus license..don't know why it appears.
because of this I get many host profile cluster as non-compliant.
does anyone have fix for this.

A few days ago, a machine was frozen during a snapshot (progress at 50%, stuck over half a day). We called support and they went through to locate the stuck process. Support rebooted the VCenter and then I believe killed the process. The machine became corrupted. We had to restore entire machine.
Same issue occurred to the same machine about 1.5 months ago. The support killed the process and it was fine. No restarting of VCenter.
I was told there wasn't any abnormally but to look at the case in more details, they have to turn on more logging which will be disk space intensive. Over the years, we haven't seen anything like this. The closest thing was a "stun" process for a split second. As of now, we don't back up that machine anymore. Just curious if anybody have similar issue. My worst nightmare would be one day it does that to a more critical machine.

I have been trying to install ESXi 5.1u1 & 5.1u2 & 5.5u1 on the following configuration to no success so far:
Asrock Q1900-ITX mobo (Intel J1900 Baytrail SoC, BIOS 1.20 with VT-x support)
8GB RAM Kingston
120GB OCZ Vector 150 (tried to connect on both SATA2.0 and SATA3.0)
Intel CT1000 NIC
Bootable 4GB FAT32 USB stick with an extracted installation (using Unetbootin) (tried to connect on both USB2.0 and USB3.0)
ESXi 5.1uX results in/stops at a black window/screen after the "Relocating modules and starting the kernel" message.
ESXi 5.5u1 starts loading the modules and stops/freezes right after the "Relocating modules and starting the kernel" message.
I have tried in the bios:
- Boot USB legacy
- Boot USB UEFI
- Disabled PXE (both NICs)
- Video memory to a minimum (64MB)
- Disabled onboard audio & NIC
- I have tried (unofficial?) inserting drivers into the installation ISO (NIC/microcode/xahci) from v-front.de.
I know that most/all of my hardware is not on the HCL, which doesn't mean it can't work, of course (like my old system).
All to no luck so far. However I successfully installed Proxmox hypervisor on this system. Others successfully installed NAS4Free (FreeBSD) or Ubuntu/Debian.
But I want ESXi 5.x for my home server, like I have on my old Intel D525 with a max of 4GB and OCZ Vertex 2 SSD (ESXi 5.1u2).
Maybe someone has some tips or advice to install ESXi 5.x on my new system?

después de tener problemas de latencia en la maquina ahora no puedo arrancar uno de los servidores, no da ningún error, solo no arranca, hacer una nueva maquina virtual pero tampoco funciona, en primer lugar el error fue en el archivo .nvram, después de buscar puede borrar el archivo para que fuera creado nuevamente, pero ahora ya no arranca como lo muestra la imagen adjunta.

I have esxi host and datastore throughput not going beyond 360MBps for all VMDK disk .But storage team informed us that throughput need to go up to 2000MBps.is there way to change any setting in esxi host level /hba card to increase throughput in host level.

We have an problem with memory balloning in an Windows 7 64-bit Guest running on VMware ESXi Version 5.5.0 Build 2302651.
VM settings:
After a few hours of usage the performance of the VM decreases and the VM becomes almost unresponsive.
Analysis: The esxi hosts claims 10 GB RAM for ballooning. The guest system is swapping.
The host is equipped with 128 GB RAM and running VMware ESXi Version 5.5.0 Build 2302651
Settings of the VM:
Memory of the VM is set to 16 GB
"Resource Allocation": no changes were made
"Shares": Normal
"Reservation": 0 MB
"Limit": 124902
Unlimited": checked
Any ideas?

After unsuccessfully trying to join an ESXi host to an AD domain. I noticed the following.
Service lsassd is crashing after trying to join the domain. Enabling debug logging and restarting lsassd, I am seeing this error in the /var/log/lsassd.log file:

Checking the /etc/likewise/lsassd.conf file I see this entry for the AD auth provider library:
[auth provider:lsa-activedirectory-provider] path = /lib/liblsass_auth_provider_ad.so
However on the ESXi host, the file /lib/liblsass_auth_provider_ad.so does not exist.
Is this normal, or is this the reason the service crashes when trying to join the domain.
The error messages I see in the /var/log/lsassd.log file when the service crashes when trying to join the domain are these:

I have a quick question: I am trying to add my first host to a brand new cluster. All I have enabled so far is EVC. I have a really nice server with a Sandy Bridge processor that I want to be able to use. When I add the host to the cluster do I need to put it in maintenance mode? Or can I just drag and drop in the cluster. Also I would like to enable HA, I would need to make sure all my vms are in a shared storage correct? Can I add a host with vms in local storage and later migrate them to a share storage?

I have a VM that suddenly stopped allowing snapshots. I first noticed it with errors in Backup Exec. Jobs failed with the following message:
Backup- MEL-VCENTER
When I try taking a snapshot from the vSphere client, I get the following - "The operation is not allowed in the current state".

Estou com um problema e já tentei várias coisas para solucionar. Usamos um servidor Dell R620 e instalamos uma HBA SAS nele para conexão direta com o storage.
A BIOS Dell consegue ver a HBA, ela está totalmente funcional, porém ao tentar instalar o driver no ESXi, ele simplesmente não aparece. Detalhe, é a versão 5.5 U2.

I'm new to ESXi but not to virtualization etc. So 7 hours of frustration after installing ESXi on my machine, it seems like I hit a brick wall. I need to attach 3x 4TB drives directly unto a guest.
I have tried everything Google furnished me with, to no avail. RDM is out (even if I turn off RDM filter as one of the KB articles said "unlocks" RDM onto local disks) - it's just greyed out.
Creating a vmdk with vmkfstools fails with "Failed to create virtual disk: The destination file system does not support large files (12)".
Note these are 4TB drives.
Is there really no way to do this?!
