Hi All,
Ive got a new DELL T110 II i-3 server that will be used to backup virtual machines on a ESX 4.0 host.
Im running ESXi 5.1 from a USB flash drive on an internal slot, but here is where Im looking for some assistance.
Ive got 3 x 500GB sata drives which I was planning to run a RAID 5 configuration, however didnt quite do all the homework and Im stuck stuck with a PERC S100 RAID controller.
The virtual machines that I will be backing up are low resource Suse Linux servers - Ill be using veeam to backup to the ESXi host.
I have been able to combine the 3 drives into one large Datastore on the ESXi host, however thats not really giving me any redundancy with the drives if any of them fail.
Question:
Should I bite the bullet and get a hardware RAID controller? If so which would probably be the best compatible model?
Or
Is there another configuration that I can setup to provide some redundancy on my data without the need for a hardware RAID card.
Thank you all in advance.
