VMWare Tools, WMI Performance Counters Windows

Hi,

I'm involved as a 3.party vendor in the Dynamics AX field in Norway and vSphere has become a normal part of the infrastructure we implement AX on. I recently discovered the possibility to gather performance metrics through the WMVare Tools API at the vm level and this is a very valuable source of information for us as a 3.party vendor not normally having access to vCenter or any raw performance capturing tools at the host/cluster level (a quck way to discover resource management as seen from the vm).

I have tried to understand the performance counters covered, but would very much appreciate some input on the interpretation of the counters below especially since VMWare doesn't provide a single explanation of them in Performance Monitor.

I have read through the How to use the vSphere Guest API (Accessor Functions for Virtual Machine Data), but I don't understand the interpretation of the following counters (probably derived through combining several counters):

Win32_PerfRawData_vmGuestLib_VCPU

  • CpuTimePercents
  • EffectiveVMSpeedMHz

The vMem counters are as far as I can see well explained in the reference above (Win32_PerfRawData_vmGuestLib_VMEM).

Thank You in advance.
