Background:
We have a cluster of hosts that were running ESX 4.1 that I have migrated to ESXi 5.
All of our hosts are connected to a SAN.
All of the Existing Datastores are file system version 3.21
I want to upgrade all of my Datastores to version 5. I know that there is an option to convert version 3 datastores to version 5, but a VMWare support technician told me that it still wouldn't have all of the features that a new version 5 Datastore would have. He said it would retain some of the version 3 characteristics.
Question:
If I delete a datastore from vCenter (after I migrate off the guests) and then recreate the Datastore using the same lun, will it be a native 5 datastore or will it still retain some of the version 3 characteristics when vCenter re-uses the lun?
I would prefer not having to unmap luns and recreate blank ones to get the native 5 datastores if possible.
