[solved] Ubuntu multi-core dilemma

I am running ESXi on an older 1950 box with two dual core 3.0 ghz processors. I originally installed a VM (Ubuntu Server 12.10 64bit) with a single vCPU. I later added three additional vCPU's to the configuration and it shows in the ESXi that it has a total of roughly 12 ghz of processing power. On the VM, my /proc/cpuinfo shows all 4 cpus, but for some reason, when running a computationally heavy application the server pegs out at 3.0 ghz. It's not using any of the additional cores. The Kernel is an SMP kernel. This is with no other VM's running mind you, so the whole of the CPU power is available. Any thoughts?
