Hi Everyone,
It's rare I get to implement a vCenter system from scratch, and would appreciate some input regarding my general approach to the networking side.
I'll omit the storage-related config, that's already been taken care of.
We're using Dell R620's for the hosts.
- 4x 10Gb Ethernet ports across 2 cards
- Port 1 on each card for VM Traffic (redundancy against card failure)
- Port 2 on each card for vMotion Traffic (redundancy against card failure)
- 4x 1Gb Ethernet Ports (On bard)
- 2x ports used for management (active/standby).
Virtual machine and vMotion traffic will reside on different VLAN's. I will configure the vMotion VLAN for jumbo frames.
In the end I will have 2 spare 1Gb ethernet ports. Any ideas what I could/should dedicate these to? (heartbeat perhaps?).
Thanks,
David
