Hi,

tried to Google but can't find any answers. Required assistance here.

i need to set up an environment with approximately 6-10 VM servers - active users can go up to 10K

Basically i am trying to build a VM capable of hosting websites / web applications

Requirements is as follow:

  • Concurrent active users might be up to 10k
  • requires HA
  • need to segregate Database and Webserver
  • requires clustering for DB
  • a backup server
  • 1-2 web server (based on 10k users, how much ram & cpu do i have to allocate per server?)
  • 2 x DB server (based on 10k users, how much ram & cpu do i have to allocate per server?)
  • and other misc servers
  • NIC teaming required + 1 backup LAN

what are the things needed for me to set this up?

a SAN? Requires 2 SAN? How many hdd required?

Should i be installing my ESXi on my SAN or Server itself?

How many physical servers required? 2 because i wanted HA?

Amount of Memory required? Type of Memory required?

Amount of HDD required? Type of HDD required?

Physical CPU required? is 8 or 16 cores per server enough?

1 or 2 physical CISCO switch?

1 or 2 fibre channel switch? or iSCSI?

Type of VMware license required?

Tape library? how big ?

What kind of backup software is good for VMs to help backup its snapshot or main VMs ?

sorry, i am setting up a system and trying to save whatever i could. sorry for the tough questions.
