Viruses in vm

Hi,

I have some test envoirment with esxi 5.1 host server and few Win XP, Win 7, Win2003 srv, Win2008srv and Unix VMs all in same network. All Windows machines have latest symantec antivirus with latest definitions and all windows vm got one nasty network worm, Symantec finds it, cleans it, but after restart worm is back, because its marks it self as system file and resides in \system32 and after restart Windows restores it. Normaly i can boot in safe mode and run full scan, disable sys restore and all will be ok.

But i wanna double chek all Windows VM with other antivirus engine, best one for pre-windows-boot is AVG Rescue CD, its free, it can be on cd or bootable usb, it can update definitions via internet, basically it is bootable linux distro, after booting it mount all disks and allow to scan them.

I created avg bootable usb and inserted it in host, is it possible to boot windows vm from this usb and scan it ?

BR,

Johny88.
