I'm practicing migrating my current VMware server 2 environment to ESXi 5. Everything seems to go smooth with the conversion to the test box that will hold everything until the new server is in place. I'd like to power on the machines in ESXi just to make sure I can document the gotchas and figure out the fixes before actually doing this for real.
I'm running the ESXi 5 as a VM on my AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz 8 CPU workstation (4 allocated) with 16 GB RAM (8 GB allocated) and a TB of space assigned to the VM datastore1. I've installed a second NIC and configured the VM to use it. I've installed the vSphere client on the workstation itself. I've also created a VM inside the ESXi VM which is running server 2008 std, vsphere client, and veeam tools.
