Hello,
I currently work in an Architecture firm as a server administrator. Our firm is using a 3D modeling tool called Revit which is quite a memory hog while sitting on our ESXi hosts. Without going into too much detail, we are playing around in our lab environment and tweaking the advanced memory attributes to get the most TPS as possible out of our hosts. I am a little confused about 4 of the memory attributes which I believe should help, but I can't find any information on them outside of the one line blurb in the Advanced Settings screen on an ESXi host. I placed a ticket with VMware support asking for detailed explanations of these attributes, only to get a response giving me an explanation of the one line blurbs, haha, thanks VMware support.
1. Mem.ShareScanTime - Default was 60. We have changed to 10. I believe this means that it will only take 10 minutes to scan all memory blocks of a VM.
2. Mem.ShareRateMax - Not really sure of the implications this setting will have, but very interested to get feedback.
3. Mem.ShareScanGHz - Default was 4. We have changed to 32. I'm guessing this increases the CPU GHz that will be used while scanning is occurring. Since we are scanning at a faster rate I guessed that this parameter would help out as well.
4. Mem.ShareUpdatePeriod - Have not modified this setting. Does this setting control how often a new scan is started on a VM?
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Will award points!
